Ever

Commissioned for Kennesaw State University’s Eleo Pomare-Glenn Conner Choreographic Residency (2025)

Ever is an abstract story inspired by childhood stories and sayings that we often teach young women. It presents a world where women are seen interwoven into the earth and lifting each other while also holding a sense of masking, presentation and utilitarianism that is forced upon us. Through vividly presenting reality and make believe and play this work presents and questions how childhood play, wonder and hope is often stripped from young women at an early age.

“This year’s bill from internationally emerging choreographers Gianna Burright and Leandro Glory Damasco Jr. offered a well-framed snapshot of how contemporary dance is evolving as an art form in the current moment.”

-Robin Wharton, ARTSATL

“Burright’s piece explores themes of curiosity, childhood memory and the female experience, inspired by fairy tales and nature. She invites the audience to ‘To experience the power of seeing young women supporting each other and connecting with the earth.’”
