Commissioned and presented by Baryshnikov Arts, Gianna Burright’s As if everything was perfect makes its world premiere following years of development, including Gianna’s 2024 Baryshnikov Arts Center Artist Residency.
Through humor, surreal imagery, and sharp physicality, the work confronts the pressures women carry and the constant negotiation between compassion and guilt. Memories, fantasies, and imagined futures collide with expectations of being too much, too little, too early, or too late.
Featuring an original score by Sio Tepper, As if everything was perfectinvites audiences into a world where joy and despair sit side by side, embracing contradiction and complexity.
